What Do You Mean These Aren't Kitchen Tools?

As I mentioned earlier, I have completely lost my voice.
When I try to speak, it barely comes out as a whisper.
In case you were wondering, it is not easy to care for children when they can't hear a word you are saying.

I was really starting to get frustrated when time to make dinner rolled around.
I had a fridge full of turkey and a house full of people who never want to see turkey again.
I searched the internet and found Tex-Mex Turkey Soup and decided to make it to mix things up.
Things were going smoothly until I was supposed to add the tomato sauce.
My can opener wouldn't work.
It is one of the safety one so when Caleb digs through the trash he doesn't cut his sweet little fingers.
I broke my other can opener a while back and haven't replaced it yet.
The soup needed the tomato sauce and after the rest of my day, I really needed this recipe to work.
So, I did what any self respecting woman would do.
I ran to the tool closet.
A hammer and small, clean screwdriver later, we were in business!
The soup was delicous even if it was Turkey!

My ears are about to explode and I have completely lost my voice.
Not to mention that my clean laundry is piled up, unfolded, and looks like this...
With all of this going on, I am lacking in the overly creative department today so I am going to post some thank yous that I have been meaning to post for a while but just kept forgetting...
First, THANK YOU! to Aunt Sheryl and Uncle Alex for:
1) Georgia Kate's birthday present!
It is adorable!
and it's matching jacket
and 2) for the delicious Christmas Cookies!
And THANK YOU! to Mom for getting the kids Pluto!
Bryant and I had this toy as a child.
Caleb plays with it all the time at Mom and Dads, but they don't sell them now.
She ran across it at a consignment shop and now we have one to keep here!

I'm It!

Pam at Country Mouse, City Mouse has tagged me!
I am totally jealous of Pam because she lives in Canada and just took her family to Niagra Falls for some post Christmas relaxation!

The Rules!!

* Grab the NEAREST book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the FIFTH sentence.
* Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your blog along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one; pick the CLOSEST.
* Tag five other people to do the same.

Much like Pam, I had a little trouble finding a book with 56 pages anywhere near me.
I went to my bookshelf, closed me eyes and pulled one off as I prayed that they would not all come tumbling down on my head.
Luckily, I pulled out a favorite and escaped concussion free!

This is from The Sweet Potato Queens' Field Guide To Men: Every Man I Love Is Either Married, Gay or Dead by the always fabulous Jill Connor Browne!

Page 56 is discussing a "queen" who happens to be dating a new man.

We sensed, in the way that women do, that we weren't getting the full details of her current relationship, details to which we were entitled. She left us no choice but to double-team harangue her until she caved and gave it up. The tidbit she finally reluctantly shared with us was the twenty-year difference in their ages. Judging from our own experiences, we naturally assumed that she was dating a thirty-year-old. Imagine our shock and utter envy when she revealed that, no, he was seventy and some change- but, she hastened to assure us, he was an extremely active seventy-plus-change and very vigourous in every way.

Crafty Caleb

Caleb is, as I see it, destined to be the next Handy Manny Ty Pennington.
Last year, for Christmas he got the entire Craftsman tool bench and added a Black and Deccer set this year.
He LOVES tools!
Last month, Adam stumbled upon the Home Depot Kids Workshop he gave it a try with Caleb.
They came home with a fancy new Home Depot apron, a very nice, REAL hammer and a really neat art easel.
Today, they made helmet bookends.
He is so proud of his new "Footballs" and is still begging to use the hammer from last months!

Pride in a Pocket

Georgia Kate woke up around 4 o'clock this morning with her right eye nearly swollen shut.
It was oozing and crusty and quite obviously infected.
A visit to our wonderful pediatricians resulted in a perscription for eye drops.
As I waited to get her perscription filled, a guy around my age got in line.
He was an average looking guy.
Tall.
Black hat, black sweat shirt.
The pockets on his jeans fell somwhere around mid-calve.
He was having to stand with his legs spread apart to keep them from falling to the floor.
It took everything I had to not pull his pants up to a semi-respectable place on his hips.
When did I become so old?
Did having two children really send me that far out of the loop?
I was quite relieved when they called my name.
I paid for my perscription, bleach and gallon of milk and left the store a little more proud of my Mommy status.

New Year, Same Rules!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year!
I know we certainly welcomed it open arms.
2008 was not our best year and were are quite glad to put it behind us and move on.
Some one who loves us very much gave us an entire turkey for Christmas.
To satisfy Adam's cravings, I invited family over and made Thanksgiving Dinner for the New Year!
It was delicious.
We then played Guitar Hero and Scrabble until midnight.
Adam, Phyllis, Mom, Jack and I went head to head in Scrabble.
As I had pointed out in the rules earlier in the evening, I NEVER lose at Scrabble!
I pulled it out in the end and won by four points!
